European Stroke Organisation (ESO) / Global Alliance of Independent Networks focused on Stroke Trials (GAINS) / World Stroke Organization (WSO) Early Career Investigators Workshop 2020
We invite you to the second Early Career Investigators Training day, an event for emerging investigators from across the world. Participants to this dynamic day will have opportunity to learn about regional and global clinical research networks and hear from experienced clinician researchers about their pathways to success. Interactive sessions will give opportunities for participants to get feedback on their research ideas and to workshop common challenges faced in building research careers with experienced mentors from a range of disciplines. Participants can share experiences and create and extend their research networks.

Are you Eligible?
We welcome applications from early career researchers (up to 10 years of academic career) from all disciplines.
Submitting your research idea
To get the most out of this day, participants should consider submitting an expression of interest to present their research idea in a small session format. The topic areas include hyperacute ischaemic stroke, ICH, secondary prevention, stroke recovery and nursing, imaging, omics, epidemiology and cohorts.

ESO Guideline Development Workshop
Time: 13:00 – 18:00 (tbc)

ESO is interested to provide guidelines that follow the highest standards. During the Guideline Development Workshop, participants will get familiar with the process that ESO follows to develop guidelines, which includes among others:
• Wording of PICO questions
• Performing systematic literature searches
• Systematic evaluation of literature searches
• Systematic evaluation of evidence of literature
• Use of meta-analyses tool
• Grading the available evidence
• Grading the strength of recommendation
• Structure of a systematic recommendation

Participants are expected
• To be ESO members
• To participate in writing an ESO guideline within an ESO working group (as a member or a leader)

ESO Stroke Rehabilitation Workshop

This workshop focuses on cutting edge clinical and research aspects of stroke, inviting renowned stroke rehabilitation specialists as well as early-career colleagues, and is organised under the auspices of the ESO and its Neurorehabilitation Committee.
Please note that the ESO Workshop is on application only and participation is limited.
During the workshop, renowned stroke rehabilitation specialists will share their knowledge with stroke physicians, therapists and nursing professionals. This stroke rehabilitation workshop addresses:
• Stroke recovery and its underlying mechanisms
• Stroke rehabilitation guidelines for the clinic and research
• The importance and execution of standardized outcome assessment
• The added value of kinematic outcome assessments for stroke recovery
• The application of technology in stroke rehabilitation
The participants will discuss the most recent research and innovative technologies for the rehabilitative treatment of stroke with a faculty of experienced European speakers and have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with standardised outcome assessments.

Target Audience
Stroke physicians, therapists and nursing professionals with interest in neurorehabilitation.
Eligibility
All applicants are expected to be ESO members or to have applied for ESO membership (junior membership application – up to 35 years, free of charge – is available here) and must also be registered for ESO-WSO 2020.
The ESO Stroke Neurorehabilitation Workshop bears the costs of meals and coffee for participants and speakers. Participants cover their accommodation, travel expenses, the dinners outside the usual programme and any personal expenses during their stay including telephone and internet costs from the hotel. Accompanying persons are not permitted.

WSO Members’ Forum

This half day Forum will include sessions led by our members about advocacy collaboration and using data to develop advocacy messages. We will share updates on WSO resources that can support your work and discuss how we can continue to work together to deliver WSO’s mission to reduce the global burden of stroke.

Target Audience
Participation in the Forum is for WSO individual and society members in the first instance. Non-members may request to attend and will be registered if space is available.
All participants must be registered for the ESO-WSO 2020 Conference.
